Cameron University assistant professor of art Jack Crouch has been selected to show his work in the annual Center for Contemporary Arts National Juried Competition and Exhibition for the fourth year in a row.
His contest drawing on hand-toned Fabriano paper titled “Perspective,” has been chosen for the prestigious exhibition, according to a press release. The work will be on display at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Abilene, Texas, from Oct. 4 through Nov. 16.
Adela Andea, the competition juror, reviewed 367 entries from 34 states and selected 192 for the exhibition, the release said.
“This drawing is a page from my sketchbook, which I keep to practice technique at home during the evenings and on weekends,” Crouch said. “I often go through and tone pages in different colors so that I may draw using shades of conte crayons, using the tone of the paper as a halftone, and building up the form with the inclusion of white.”
Crouch joined the CU faculty in August of 2021 and teaches painting and drawing, the release said. Born and raised in rural Illinois to an artist father and preschool teacher mother, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Western Illinois University in 2009. He then earned a Master of Arts degree and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Bradley University.
His medium of choice is oil painting and his work ranges from still life paintings to large-scale narrative figure paintings influenced by Italian Renaissance artists as well as the New Leipzig School of painters, the release said.
