Cameron’s women’s tennis team won its second match against MIAA opponent Northwest Missouri State, 4-3. in home match Sunday.
After being rained out Saturday, the Aggies came out strong by claiming the doubles point with strong play at No. 2 doubles by Magda Wawrowska and Martyna Jankowska with a 6-3 win after a dominating performance at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 win by Jenna Goessel and Anastasia Uspenskaia.
Cameron kept up the pressure after the doubles with straight set victories at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles to decide the match by Jankowska, Goessel, and Wawrowska. The Aggies continued to compete for the extra match wins after the decision before dropping the remaining matches in close decisions. At No. 1 singles, Uspenskaia lost a close 3-set match to a nationally ranked opponent after dropping the first set. The two freshman battled through tough matches as well at No. 5 and No. 6 in straight set losses.
Coach Josh Cobble said this about the performance, “We have had several challenges this semester in dealing with injuries, but we have a standard of what it means to compete well here at Cameron and these ladies have continued to step up to that standard.
“Our opportunity to succeed this year is going to be determined in how well we compete together every time we step out on the court. This match shows what they are capable of together.”
The Aggies will attempt to continue their winning ways when they host Southwest Baptist Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Streich-Henry Family Tennis Complex at Cameron.

Softball team sweeps LSC foe
Cameron’s softball team came up with a dramatic comeback in the second game of Sunday’s Lone Star Conference doubleheader against Texas Permian Basin to earn a sweep to even its conference record at 8-8.
The Aggies won the opener, 4-1, and then scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings where CU pulled out an 11-10 walk-off win. In the eighth Mia Garcia delivered a hit that plated Rylee Ross to end the game.
But the seventh was where the Aggies faced a challenge but they responded thanks to Madysen Boutwell’s solo home run, a Ross RBI double and a critical error by the visitors that allowed two unearned runs to score.
Permian Basin had built a 6-1 lead after the top of the fourth but the Aggies started chipping away with a Kaiden Boren solo homer in the sixth and a Garcia RBI hit that got another run across to make it 8-3.
