ANADARKO — Arrest warrants were issued Tuesday for a Caddo County couple accused of grossly neglecting their two dogs.
The Caddo County District Court issued felony arrest warrants for Raymond Horace Nibbs, 41, and Leanne Michelle Bigboy, 40, both of Anadarko, for two counts of cruelty to animals each.
The crime is punishable by up to five years in prison but due to a prior felony conviction, Nibbs faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
An Anadarko Animal Welfare officer requested police assistance on Jan. 3 at 322 SE 7th on possible animal cruelty, Officer Jeff Butler stated. One of the children at the home said it had been a week since the dogs were fed, the warrant affidavit states.
The two dogs, a black pit bull and a brown mixed breed, were both “extremely skinny” and weighed between 20 to 25 pounds when they should weigh between 50 to 60 pounds, according to Butler. The pit bull attempted to urinate several times but was unable to do so, the affidavit states.
The dogs were secured to ½-inch logging chains with no shelter and, when transported to the shelter, were so light they were able to be picked up and kenneled by juveniles, Butler stated.
Bigboy spoke with Butler and he stated she said the dogs had been eating well when fed “good food” but began starving themselves when switched to a cheaper food, according to the affidavit.
