A Lawton man already facing charges for a 2023 assault that included gunplay is now held on $500,000 bond for shooting another man multiple times.
Alphonso Dentrell Williams, 30, made his initial appearance Tuesday in Comanche County District Court where he received felony charges of shooting with intent to kill, possession of alprazolam with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, as well as misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, records indicate. The shooting charge is punishable by up to life in prison.
Lawton police were called shortly before 7:20 p.m. Feb. 8 to 2801 NW 25th to the report of a shooting and found Jerry Jones in the side yard to the home suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his back and right arm, the probable cause affidavit states.
Contact was made with Williams who said he’d been hanging out when Jones because “causing problems,” Officer Nixon Pacheco stated. Williams said he repeatedly told Jones to leave and when Jones took off his jacket and came at him, he fired his .40 caliber handgun, the affidavit states. Williams was taken into custody for a 2023 misdemeanor domestic assault warrant.
Williams declined to speak to detectives without a lawyer present.
Witnesses said Jones had become physically abusive with a woman at the home and when he learned she was going to stay at the house, he began arguing with Williams. Four gunshots were heard before Jones was discovered wounded in the yard, Detective Michael Arzola stated. Williams called 911 and set his handgun on a table before their arrival, according to the affidavit.
Several spent shell casings were found as well as an intact slug, Arzola stated.
During a search of the house, 4.09 grams of cocaine, 127.49 grams of marijuana and 78½ Xanax (alprazolam) pills were recovered, the affidavit states.
Williams has been free on $15,000 bond following his initial appearance Aug. 7, 2023, for a felony count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon as well as a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery, records indicate.
Lawton police investigating a June 9 set of incidents learned Williams was the suspect.
Williams is accused of hitting a man over the head with a bottle, causing him to receive 13 staples while being treated at a local hospital, the warrant affidavit states. Once discharged from the hospital, the man said he went back to the home to check on his children’s safety and was confronted by several people in the front yard. As he tried to drive off, according to the affidavit, he said Williams fired a handgun several times, with one bullet hitting the hood.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. April 19.
As part of his latest bond conditions, Williams is to have no contact with Jones. He returns to court at 3 p.m. April 30 for his preliminary hearing conference for the latest charges, records indicate.
