Caddo County man accused of being a one-man demolition derby

ANADARKO— A Caddo County man is accused of using his pickup as a demolition derby vehicle in a Walmart parking lot before attempting to elude police.

Once in custody, investigators said, he continued his attempts at battery with his fist.

Billy Parton, 73, of Apache, made his initial appearance Tuesday in Caddo County District Court where he received a felony charge of assault and battery on a police officer, and misdemeanor charges of molesting a motor vehicle, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving damage, eluding/attempting to elude police, obstructing police and resisting police, records indicate.

Anadarko police were called shortly after 2:45 a.m. Tuesday to Walmart, 1201 W. Petree, regarding an assault.

The victim told police she was sleeping in her vehicle while on lunch break when she woke up to a vehicle pushing her vehicle back, Anadarko Police Officer Jeff Butler stated. She backed up and said the vehicle driven by Parton pulled behind her as if to hit her vehicle again. She said she rolled down her window and asked Parton what he was doing and he replied: “I know this car from Fort Cobb and I’m going to (expletive) this car up,” the probable cause affidavit states. She drove off and said Parton accelerated rapidly before driving around the building.

Another person was parked behind the store making a delivery when, she said, Patron struck her trailer attached to her vehicle before speeding away, the affidavit states.

Police attempted to stop Parton near Petree and Oxford but he tried to elude before being pulled over in front of a home at 1317 Berkshire, Butler stated.

While officers spoke with Parton, he abruptly got out of his truck, struck one officer in the chest and was combative with two other officers before he was arrested, according to the affidavit.

Investigators learned there had been a 911 call earlier in the night regarding Parton and his truck driving erratically near Apache, Officer Jordan Tait stated. Parton pulled behind a stopped car and told the driver he was with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol before striking the parked car and driving off, the affidavit states.

Held on no bond, Patron returns to court at 9 a.m. March 28 for his preliminary hearing conference.
