A stabbing at a Lawton bar landed a man behind bars.
Daniel Lee Thompson, 35, of Lawton, made his initial appearance Thursday in Comanche County District Court where he was charged with a felony count of battery with a dangerous weapon, records indicate. The crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Lawton Police Officer William Brooks stated he was called shortly after 1 a.m. Dec. 29, 2023, to Helen’s Club, 1710 Cache Road, regarding a stabbing and arrived to find several witness who pointed out Thompson seated in a car in the parking lot as the suspect. He found several people inside rendering aid to a man bleeding from a stab wound to the left side of his abdomen, the probable cause affidavit states. Witnesses said a fight between the men escalated when the injured man struck Thompson in the face and Thompson responded by stabbing him in the abdomen.
The injured man told Brooks that Thompson was making disparaging comments about a woman with him and when he told him to “chill out,” Thompson pulled out a knife and held it down by his side, the affidavit states. He said he got nervous and punched Thompson in the face before Thompson responded with the blade, Brooks stated.
Thompson told Brooks the other man hit him in the head with a beer bottle, breaking it, and didn’t claim to stab anybody, according to the affidavit. No broken bottles were seen inside the bar and no broken glass injuries were seen on Thompson’s head, Brooks stated.
Thompson’s bond was unavailable.
