Arrest attempt gives Lawton police more than they bargain for

Lawton police said arresting a woman after she threw punches at a gathering was pretty tough.

Especially after investigators said she repeatedly kicked a police officer and took his handcuffs.

Lamara Quanshay Glaze, 35, of Lawton, made her initial appearance Tuesday in Comanche County District Court where she was charged with a felony count of assault and battery on a police officer and a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery, records indicate.

The felony is normally punishable by up to five years in prison but due to six prior felony convictions, she faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

Lawton police were called shortly before 4 p.m. Nov. 22 to a home in the 1500 block of Northwest Kingsbury Avenue on the report of a physical disturbance. There had been multiple calls to the location throughout the day and a firearm had been involved, according to the probable cause affidavit. A woman was heard screaming and officers recognized her voice as that of Glaze due to previous encounters.

Officers arrived to a small apartment with around 20 people inside with many of them saying Glaze needed to go to jail. Glaze was yelling at police but she was “not making sense,” the affidavit states.

A man with redness on the side of the face and a cut to his nose and eye told police he’d told Glaze to leave and she punched him in the face, cutting his nose with his glasses, according to the affidavit. He wanted to press charges.

When an officer reached for Glaze’s hand to take her into custody, she jerked away and threw herself onto her back, police said. Another officer tried to take her into custody and she began kicking him repeatedly in the stomach and chest, causing his Taser and radio to fall from their holsters, the affidavit states. Multiple officers tried to get her under control.

During the altercation, one officer dropped his handcuffs and Glaze grabbed them and wouldn’t let go, according to the affidavit. The cuffs were forcibly removed. Glaze wouldn’t stand up and had to be carried and forced into a patrol unit.

Glaze has six prior felony convictions in Comanche County: May 2009, uttering a forged instrument; May 2011, knowingly concealing and withholding stolen property; June 2018, second-degree burglary; August 2019, possession of a credit card belonging to another, exploitation of an elderly or disabled person, and possession of a credit card belonging to another, records indicate.

Held on $30,000 bond with the stipulation she have no contact with the victims or witnesses, Glaze returns to court at 3 p.m. Dec. 18 for her preliminary hearing conference.
