DUNCAN — The Chisholm Trail Arts Council will kick off its Holiday Art Show and Sale at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the gallery at 810 W. Walnut.
The arts council’s sixth annual show will feature 46 artists who are bringing 118 pieces of artwork, said Executive Director Darcy Reeves. This year, the arts council will be offering $3,300 in prize awards to the winners in the categories of fine art, three-dimensional and photography, to include the announcement of Best of Show.
“We are very excited to have Matthew Hughes, the executive director of the Leslie Powell Gallery in Lawton, judging this year’s show,” Reeves said.
Hughes, who also is an artist, graduated from Cameron University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in studio art and shortly after, took the position of executive director of the Leslie Powell Gallery. He continues to create his artwork in various mediums, including watercolor, oils, pastels, charcoal, and graphite, and also provides private art lessons, teaches graphic design at Cameron, and raises a family.
The Holiday Art Show and sale will be open Thursday through Dec. 14. Typical gallery hours are 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free. More information is available by calling (580) 252-4160.
Chisholm Trail Arts Council is a nonprofit organization with a mission of promoting and inspiring the arts in Southwest Oklahoma. Reeves said this holiday project was supported in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council, which receives support from the State of Oklahoma and the National Endowment for the Arts. CTAC also receives support through the McCasland Foundation, businesses, and memberships.
