Two events Saturday will allow residents to view the annular solar eclipse.
The annular solar eclipse, better known as a ring of fire, will be visible over parts of the western U.S., including Oklahoma. The moon will line up between the Earth and sun and will blot out all but the sun’s outer rim. A bright border will appear around the moon for a few minutes, with the peak around 11:15 a.m. Central Daylight Time.
An event at Lawton Public Library, 110 SW 4th, is a family-oriented event, Katie Hall, User Services Librarian, said.
The free event, which will be held from 9-11 a.m., will include games, crafts and space-themed snacks. The activities will be inside the library, except for when the eclipse occurs around 11 a.m. when patrons will be encouraged to go out and view the eclipse. Special glasses will be provided for those viewing the eclipse.
Craft events include making suncatchers and decorating moon rocks. Snacks include Moon Pies, Sun chips and Tang.
The second event will be held at First Baptist Church, 501 SW B.
Bill Fudge will set up his 8-inch telescope in the church parking lot and project the eclipse onto a TV screen. Individuals are invited to view the eclipse on the TV screen in the church’s Fellowship Hall on the west side of the building.
Fudge will have his telescope set up between 10:30-11:30 a.m.
