PSO officials said Thursday that power has been fully restored to Lawton.
PSO crews worked through the night to restore power to thousands of Lawton customers left without electricity when a fire at the east Lawton substation took down the facility at 5:11 a.m. Wednesday. While the power outages stemming directly from the fire were mostly confined to east, downtown and south central Lawton, residents in west Lawton experienced outages because of controlled outages PSO imposed to stabilize the electrical system. The exception in west Lawton was a neighborhood south of West Gore Boulevard and west of Southwest 45th Street, which lost power the same time east Lawton did.
“We will continue to monitor the situation as repairs continue at the substation,” said Wayne Greene, PSO region communications manager.
Greene said the cause of the fire remains unknown at this point.
