ELGIN — Rose State College volleyball coach Katelin Shay expects Elgin signee Sarah Schuh to be in the starting lineup when the Lady Raiders begin their season in the fall.
“We were able to give nine athletes a partial scholarship and she was one of them,” Shay said.
Rose State posted a 7-19 season record in 2022, its best so far in the program’s history. The Lady Raiders were winless the previous season.
Schuh will give the Lady Raiders added depth on the back line as a defensive specialist or libero. Players who are designated liberos are often shorter than the front row blockers and hitters but have high-level ball control skills.
“She (Schuh) communicates well on the court and she’s going to fit in,” Shay said. “We watched her in club and school ball, and she was able to keep points alive. We were searching for someone who would be able to get rally points.”
Schuh was persistent about reaching the Rose State coach in regard to a potential spot on the team.
“She emailed me 12 times before I was able to get back to her,” Shay recalled. “She came with her grandparents and toured the campus.”
Rose State is a two-year college located in Midwest City along Interstate 40, just east of downtown Oklahoma City.
