Lawton cooled considerably in the last two months of 2024, and so did the city’s commercial building permit activity.
The city issued permits for commercial projects totaling just over $9.5 million in November and December, but more than half that was for projects previously issued permits but not yet completed.
Bishop School’s $6 million permit for a new middle school was renewed even though the building is already occupied. School officials said the district is waiting for a federal grant to finish the project with a safe room.
Also receiving a renewal was a $500,000 remodeling permit for a new Hatch Early Mood Food restaurant in the Lawton Town Center retail development on Northwest 2nd Street. The restaurant will occupy 5,000 square feet formerly occupied by Charming Charlie’s.
The largest new project — valued at $1.6 million — is for the second and third phases of remodeling the core lab at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, 3401 W. Gore.
