Having the opportunity to showcase one’s skills is a nervous, yet exciting experience. Even more so when it’s overseas.
Azure-Leigh Eddington of Lawton made her international debut this summer by performing in the American Celebration of Music in Ireland.
Eddington performed with the University of Oklahoma’s Men’s Glee Club and Women’s Choir at three historic venues: St. Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and St. Joseph’s Church in Dublin.
Eddington said she loved performing for the trip.
“It had a different vibe altogether because I was performing for people who went out of their way to see us,” Eddington said. “People in Ireland are so enthusiastic about choir and the arts. Any time we went somewhere as a group and they found out we were a choir, they’d ask us to sing and we’d sing our heart out for them. I mean it was like this everywhere. At a castle, a museum, we even sang “Oklahoma!” at a pub, of all places, during karaoke night.”
Eddington is an Electrical Engineering Sophomore and is still trying to figure out what she wants to do.
“I have lots of interests,” Eddington said. “Right now, though, I really want to work at Texas institutes. If not there, then I’d like to use whatever knowledge I have to help an environmentally conscious organization.”
David Howard, D.M.A., associate director of OU’s choral activities, said the performances were “truly a wonderful experience.”
“These performances were the first international appearances by two OU choirs and offered a fantastic opportunity for (OU) to shine on a global stage, introducing (OU) to new audiences 5,000 miles away,” Howard said.
