A joint-operation between the Comanche County Sheriff’s Department and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics led to search warrant operations of three properties related to one man.
The results are a lengthy set of charges filed against a 38-year-old Lawton man.
According to the probable cause affidavit, James Demiles Smith was the target of the operation.
The first search was Tuesday at 904 SW 29th where another man was seen going inside and leaving with a tote he placed in his backyard at 2820 SW H, investigators said. A search of the tote returned 500 fentanyl pills, the affidavit states. The man said Smith had called him and asked him to take the tote and hold it for him.
Inside the home, in Smith’s bedroom, investigators found more fentanyl pills, marijuana and paraphernalia, a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol and $13,700 in cash inside a safe, according to the affidavit. Also found in the bedroom was a $1 bill containing cocaine, an ounce of methamphetamine and another $413 in cash.
The second warrant was served at 1605 NW Ferris. Prior to serving the warrant, a young woman ran to the home in what investigators said, “appeared to be in a panic.” She was then seen leaving with a blue and white cooler containing a large tube of approximately 2.4 pounds of fentanyl pills, the affidavit states. Investigators claimed to have found another two kilos of meth and 1 to 1½ pounds of cocaine in the home.
The third warrant was served at The Yum Yum Box, 2106½ Fort Sill Boulevard, where Smith works. Investigators found another 10 fentanyl pills, a loaded Walther PPQ 9mm handgun and a scale with a white substance on it, according to the affidavit. When taken into custody, Smith admitted all the drugs were his, investigators said.
On Thursday, felony charges were filed in Comanche County District Court charging Smith with counts of aggravated trafficking in fentanyl, meth and cocaine, two counts of possession of a controlled drug (crack and marijuana) with the intent to distribute, acquiring proceeds from drug activity and possession of a firearm after former felony conviction, records indicate.
Smith has two prior felony convictions in Comanche County from November 2009 for second-degree burglary and possession of a controlled drug with the intent to distribute, records indicate.
