In a dog eat dog world, every dog will have its day. That day is this Saturday.
The Comanche County Pet Resource Foundation will have its first Woofstock Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 198 Lake Crest Park Drive in Medicine Park.
Marcia Cronk, founder and president of Comanche County Pet Resource Foundation, said the event will support the foundation.
“Our mission is to keep pets out of shelters and at home instead of having to surrender to shelters or euthanize for lack of funds to care for the pets,” Cronk said.
Cronk said they want to start doing fun fundraisers, not just spaghetti dinners.
“We want to do stuff for the pets where pet parents and pets can come to events together,” Cronk said. “We want to encourage pet communities like Medicine Park, and that’s the kind of fundraising that we want to do. I thought it’d be neat to do a big event, a pet-friendly event that would have vendors and pet services.”
Cronk said they got the name from a friend.
“We were thinking we wanted a really cool name,” Cronk said. “We didn’t want, like, Pupalozza, or the common stuff. A friend of mine texted me [and said], ‘Well, what about Woofstock?’ When we said ‘Woofstock,’ we immediately thought about Medicine Park because that’s the perfect place.”
Cronk said they are the first Woofstock in Southwest Oklahoma that is doing an event like this.
“The next big event that is pet friendly is out in Duncan,” Cronk said. “We’re the first one who’s doing a large event like that and in Comanche County in our area.”
Cronk said the festival isn’t exclusively for dogs.
“In the parade, there’s donkeys and pigs and all that kind of stuff,” Cronk said. “The pets just have to be comfortable in crowds because we don’t want to bring a cat that’s gonna freak out.”
One of the activities scheduled is K9 demonstrations.
“[The Fort Sill K9 team will be] showing bite work and bomb detection and things like that,” Cronk said.
The event is free and open to the public.
