Last week’s snow storm caused a good deal of headaches for schools that were competing in tournaments but Lawton High and MacArthur were able to complete a non-district doubleheader Friday with the Mac girls and LHS boys taking easy victories.
The Wolverines’ were able to do damage in several manners including some hot shooting from Champ Brewer and the inside might of Pene Vasiagote and Tavarious Deans en route to a 74-50 victory.
Chevis Smith’s Wolverines climbed to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in district while the Mac boys fell to 6-4 overall but the Highlanders are 3-0 in district. LHS has several more tough district games including a late-January contest against John Marshall.
Mac boys have a big game coming up this week, going to El Reno Tuesday for a battle with the Indians who are 8-0 overall and 4-0 in district. And Thursday the Highlanders host Carl Albert which is also unbeaten in district.
The Mac girls earned a 68-25 victory over the Wolverines and the Lady Highlanders will also have two tough district games this week as El Reno and Carl Albert are both 4-0 in district entering the week while Mac girls are 2-1 in district.
Both Eisenhower teams are trying to get their games in at the Midfirst Warrior Classic this week as the event had just one day of games before snow stopped the action.
The Slick Hills Invitational at Apache was also disrupted but four games were being played Saturday: Hobart vs. Hollis (Girls); OKC vs Hollis (Boys); Apache vs. OKC (Girls); and Apache vs Hobart (Boys).
Six games are scheduled Monday: Noon—Hydro vs. loser Apache/OKC (Girls); 1:40 p.m.—Walters vs loser Apache/Hobart (Boys); 3:10—Walters vs winner Apache/OKC (Girls); 4:30—Vanoss vs winner Apache/Hobart (Boys); 5:50—Vanoss vs. winner Hobart/Hollis (Girls); and 7:10—Hydro vs Winner of OKC/Hollis (Boys).
The final games will be Wednesday: 9 a.m.—Girls Consolation; 10:30 a.m.—Boys Consolation; Noon—Girls 3rd place; 1:30 p.m.—Boys 3rd place; 3 p.m.—Girls Championship; and 4:30 p.m.—Boys Championship.
One tournament—Black Diamond Classic in Rush Springs—was canceled because of many scheduling conflicts for the teams involved.
The busiest week of the regular season comes on Jan. 20 when the popular county tournaments in Comanche and Caddo, plus several other events are planned. The Comanche County Tournament will be held at the Great Plains Coliseum and the Caddo County Tournament will be held at Anadarko High School.
