Voters to select a new senator for Oklahoma Senate District 32

Registered voters in Oklahoma Senate District 32 will go to the polls Tuesday to select a new senator.

The election is pitting Elgin minister and businessman Dusty Deevers, a Republican, against Lawton insurance business owner Larry Bush, a Democrat. The winner will fill the seat left vacant when former Sen. John Michael Montgomery resigned in August to become president/CEO of the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce. Montgomery was less than year into his new term, meaning whoever is elected Tuesday will complete that term.

Oklahoma Senate officials indicated in October that the new District 32 senator would be sworn into office at a ceremony planned for Dec. 20.

The election is open to qualified voters who live in Senate District 32, which includes northern and western Comanche County, to include everything west of Post Oak Road. In Lawton, the district includes the area north of West Lee Boulevard to Southwest 38th Street, then north of Southwest F Avenue to Southwest 3rd Street. Deevers has been pastor of Grace Reformed Baptist Church of Elgin since 2016, and also is CEO of Deevers Properties. He said he wants to blend his conservative and Christian values to serve residents of District 32, while using his business background to help restore the state’s potential as an economic powerhouse.
