DUNCAN — Get ready to feel the beat once again because the Chisholm Trail Arts Council (CTAC) will open its next upcoming concert in its series soon.
CTAC Live! will host its second show of the season when they introduce the Vienna Boys Choir — a children’s choral group — on Nov. 7 to the Simmons Center stage in Duncan.
According to a recent release, the Vienna Boys Choir, also known as The Wiener Sängerknaben, is one of the oldest of all musical organizations.
“The angelic-voiced musicians of the Vienna Boys Choir celebrate the magic of the holiday season with a delightful program of Austrian folk songs, classical masterpieces, Christmas hymns and holiday carols,” a release states. “For six centuries, these young cultural ambassadors have been adored (by) the world over for their wide range of repertoire, purity of tone and generosity of musical spirit.”
CTAC Executive Director Darcy Reeves said The Vienna Boys Choir concert is made possible through the support of DRH Health.
“This is truly a wonderful and rare opportunity to have such a well known performance come to our rural community,” she said. “The Vienna Boys Choir is one of the most famous Choirs in the world.”
According to Reeves, the choir is led by President and Artistic Director Professor Gerald Wirth.
“The Vienna Boys Choir is divided into four Choirs and between them the Choirs give around 300 concerts each year, attended by almost half a million spectators around the world,” she said. “Since 1924, 2,750 choristers have sung over 1,000 tours in 100 different countries.”
For the past 520 years, according to a biography, on Sundays, the Choir performs with the Vienna Philharmonic, as well as the Vienna State Opera Chorus in Vienna’s Imperial Chapel. Additionally, the Choir makes an appearance at the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert and at the Salzburg Festival.
The Choir performs with major orchestras, which are conducted “by the likes of Joana Mallwitz, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, and Simone Young and the Boys performed at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel since 1296,” the biography states.
