After the departure of the 77th Army Band, many were left with not only broken hearts but possibly an emptiness that won’t be filled by just any band.
But one band will try.
The U.S. Army Field Band & Choir will perform their ensembles at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the McMahon Memorial Auditorium, 801 NW Ferris.
Jason Poudrier, Arts & Humanities Administrator, said it’s always significant when they get the national band to play.
“To have the United States Army Field Band and Choir here, it’s great because it shows the national support of our local community, soldiers and veterans,” Poudrier said. “Lawton Philharmonic reached out to them first and we like to try to recruit them to come perform here and share their talents. We’re always looking for ways to provide free to low cost entertainment for our citizens and this is one of those ways.”
Where there are different presidential and national events, the band will play.
“These are exquisite, top-level performers,” Poudrier said.
Similar to the 77th Army Band, the Field Band will play a range of music, with the theme “America, the Beautiful,.”
“There will be some patriotic music, but it’s also music that’s just inspired by the beauty of our nation,” Poudrier said.
Patrons are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to local organizations in need.
“It’s not a requirement by any means,” Poudrier said. “It’s strongly encouraged. We’ll have a donation box set up and we look forward to having this opportunity for people to come out for a free concert and bring something to give back to our community.”
The concert is free and open to the public.
