Two women are in jail accused of selling the fatal fentanyl that led to Lawton’s 13th death by homicide in 2024.
Mariah Jade Brewer, 25, and Rebecca Gonzalez, 33, both of Lawton, made their initial appearances Tuesday in Comanche County District Court, records indicate.
Brewer was charged with first-degree manslaughter, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, conspiracy to commit possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute and unlawful use of a telephone to sell a controlled drug.
Gonzalez received the same charges as well as misdemeanor charges of driving without a license, failure to maintain insurance and operating a vehicle with defective equipment.
The women are accused of providing the fentanyl that killed Chyna Alexander, 26, on Christmas night 2024.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Alexander was found dead at 6909 NW Sprucewood Drive shortly before 10:45 p.m. It was determined she’d overdosed on fentanyl with some left in a baggie near her head and her cell phone showed communication between her and Brewer and Gonzalez, Lawton Police Detective Jeff McCoy stated.
The messages showed that Alexander paid Brewer through Cashapp and Gonzalez picked it up and delivered it, the affidavit states. Ring doorbell video showed Alexander meet at Gonzalez’s silver Nissan Pathfinder in the parking lot, according to McCoy.
It was learned Brewer had outstanding warrants and she was arrested Thursday and interviewed. Brewer admitted to sending Gonzalez with the $60 worth of fentanyl and to changing her Cashapp name after she learned Alexander died, the affidavit states.
Both women are being held on $50,000 bond. Gonzalez returns to court at 2 p.m. April 11 for her preliminary hearing and Brewer at 3 p.m. April 17 for her preliminary hearing, records indicate.
