A 60-year-old Lawton man is in jail on $80,000 bond after a traffic stop led to the discovery of 1,001 fentanyl pills in his pickup.
Duane Edward Green made his initial appearance Friday in Comanche County District Court where he received a felony charge of aggravated trafficking in fentanyl and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to pay taxes due to the state. The trafficking charge is punishable by between two years to life in prison and a fine of between $250,000 to $500,000.
Lawton police were investigating Green and stopped him while driving shortly after 4:15 p.m. Wednesday for an expired tag at Northwest Denver Avenue and Sheridan Road, according to the probable cause affidavit. Green was detained and a K-9 officer was deployed to sniff the vehicle for drugs.
The dog alerted to drugs and police discovered foil with drug residue, cut plastic straws and a plastic bag wrapped in black tape containing 1,001 fentanyl pills from the front passenger door panel, the affidavit states. The fentanyl weighed 110.46 grams.
As part of his bond conditions, Green is to wear a GPS ankle monitor. He returns to court at 3 p.m. Oct. 22 for his preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
