A 32-year-old Lawton man is out of jail on $50,000 bond and is wearing a GPS monitoring system after being charged Monday with aggravated fentanyl trafficking.
Shawn Michael Hernandez made his initial appearance in Comanche County District Court and received felony counts of aggravated fentanyl trafficking, possession of fentanyl with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm after former felony conviction, as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of paraphernalia and unsafe lane use, records indicate.
Lawton Police Department Special Operations detectives saw a company-labelled work vehicle driving southbound on Southwest 67th Street towards Lee Boulevard around 3:15 p.m. Oct. 9 and conducted a traffic stop after he changed lanes without using his light, the probable cause affidavit states. A K-9 officer sniffed the vehicle and alerted to narcotics and Hernandez was detained however no drugs were found.
After receiving a warrant, detectives searched Hernandez’s home at 2412 SW Edinburough. They recovered a loaded Glock handgun, digital scales and 1,570 fentanyl pills, the affidavit states.
During questioning, Hernandez admitted to selling drugs to make money, according to the affidavit.
Hernandez has a May 2004 felony conviction in Washington state for a count of third-degree assault, records indicate.
A preliminary hearing for Hernandez is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 10, 2025.
