An Oct. 30 traffic stop led to a home search and just under 10,000 fentanyl pills and the arrest of a Lawton man.
The Comanche County District Court issued a felony arrest warrant Thursday for Devin Rashaan Shrubs Sr., 28, for counts of aggravated fentanyl trafficking, use of a phone to traffick drugs and possession of a firearm after former felony conviction, as well as a misdemeanor count of driving without a valid license, records indicate.
Members of the Lawton Police Special Operations Unit stopped a vehicle driven by Shrubs because investigators knew he didn’t have a valid driver’s license, Detective Jeff McCoy stated. Officers saw a handgun on the floorboard of the driver’s side and due to an April 19 felony conviction for possession of a controlled drug with the intent to distribute, it’s illegal for him to possess a gun, according to the warrant affidavit.
A K-9 officer conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted positively, McCoy stated. A search led to the discovery of around 7,000 fentanyl pills and a large amount of cash in the console, the affidavit states.
Detectives secured a search warrant and went to Shrubs’ apartment at 6921 W. Gore. During the search, another 2,112 fentanyl pills as well as two handguns were found, according to investigators. In total, 9,870 pills were recovered and submitted to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, McCoy stated.
Shrubs spoke with police. He said he’d been selling pills for a few months and had begun moving larger amounts only in the “past eight or so months,” according to the affidavit. He allowed police to search his phone after admitted he’d conducted drug deals by phone.
Shrubs is being held on $1 million cash warrant bond pending his initial court appearance, records indicate.
