WOODWARD—Tipton went a rare quarter without scoring but the Tigers got on the board twice in the second and then put Tyrone away, 42-0, Friday to advance to another Class C state championship game.
The Tigers have won the past two Class C titles and are now 13-0 this season and shooting for the Three-peat. The opponent will be Timberlake with kickoff planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Central Oklahoma’s Richison Field.
Travis White’s Tigers used a fourth down stop to set up their first score, a 34-yard run by Johnny Fernandez who also tacked on the 2-point PAT.
Nose guard Max Babcock set up the second Tipton score late in the first half, blowing through the Tyrone punt formation and smothering the punt and sending the ball rolling back downfield.
It took three plays to score with JJ Jallah running it in from the 2-yard line. Fernandez tacked on the PAT run for a 16-0 lead.
Early in the third quarter the Tigers took advantage of a 4th-down gamble that backfired on the Bobcats as a bad snap set the Tigers up just 27 yards from paydirt.
Quarterback Kaydence Sheffield dropped back and launched a perfect strike to No. 18 for another score.
The defense rose to the occasion on Tyrone’s next drive, getting a fourth down stop at the 29-yard line. Three plays later Jallah ran the ball in from short range and Fernandez got the PAT as the Tigers assumed complete control.
