It was another packed house as Thunderbird Lanes hosted 46 bowlers in contention for the 5th Po-Boy Title of the season.

James Middleton was the leader after two games of qualifying, posting 209 and 239 for a 481 with handicap.

Antoine Murphy was just a pin back at 480, followed by Matt Ray with 478.

High qualifying scratch game winners were Steve O’Harris, 259 and Tyler Price 235 for game one and Matt Ray, 242 and Zach Leshikar, 234, for game two.

Making it through the first round of the single elimination bracket was Hutto over Middleton, 242-240, Smith over Price, 256-154, Jones over O’Harris, 204-185, Gordon over Franco, 265-209, Norman over Ray, 205-202, Nauman over Tracht, 223-179, Leshikar over Langham, 227-198 and Thomas over Murphy 263-247.

Results from the round of eight showed Smith over Hutto, 208-161, Gordon over Jones, 246-152, Nauman over Norman, 208-164 and Thomas with a 254 win over Leshikar’s 239.

Smith zoned in and posted a 232 to advance over Gordon’s 188 and Thomas got the win over Nau-man, 224-214 to set up the final round.

It was a close match from the start but Thomas continued on his mission and rolled 233 to beat Smith’s 217 for the title, giving us 5 different winners in 5 weeks of the event.

There are only four Po-Boy events remaining in this series.

Competition starts every Monday night at 7 p.m. at Thunderbird Lanes. Sign up early to avoid the rush.

League News

Highlighting regular 10-pin league play was Chris Dickerson of the Tuesday Night Trio league at Twin Oaks. Dickerson ended up with a 671 after games of 255, 212 and 204.

Richard Jacoby led in the Roudy Bunch with a 663 thanks to the high game of the week of 277, sandwiched between a pair of 193 games.

Sue Avis retained her high series post with another 600 series, back to back for her, this time a 604 that was the ladies best set last week.

And on the youth front, Sage Rush put games of 247, 266 and 158 together for a 671 bowling in the Summer 2024 HotShot Legends league at Thunderbird.

No-Tap News

Richard Jacoby managed a no-tap 805 series in the Socialites no-tap league last Monday afternoon at Thunderbird Lanes where he rolled 263, 275 and 267 to make up the monster set.

The senior No-Tap Colorama at Thunderbird Lanes showed Sue Avis with the high handicap series of the day of 852, followed by Bonnie Ledford who nabbed second place in the women’s division with an 816.

Randy Travis took first for the guys with 810, followed by Steve Jester, 793 and John Fortner, 789.

Scratch series winners were Fortner, 717, David Yett, 712 and Travis, 699.

Strike pot ticket winners were Kevin Pair, Peggy Towne, Roy Johnson, Cleo Travis, Charles Norman and Steve Jester.

The blind pick Mystery Doubles winners were Bonnie Ledford with Herb Scott, 596, Kevin Pair with Charles Norman, 551 and Peggy Towne with John Fortner, 610.

There were a lot of close calls but no winners in the special challenge shots last Friday afternoon.

It will not be long and it will be time to start back up for those of you who take off for the summer months.

If you want to loosen up those bowling muscles, check out the new scoring system at Thunderbird Lanes and check to make sure your bowling balls are still in one piece, join senior bowlers age 50 and above every Friday afternoon starting at 1pm for some 9-pin No-Tap Color Pin fun.
