WALTERS — A Texas man is facing more than a decade in prison if convicted of the nine charges stemming from what investigators called a dangerous Cotton County pursuit of a drunk driver.
David Christian Peck, 24, of Alvord, Texas, made his initial appearance Sept. 18 in Cotton County District Court where he received felony charges of eluding/attempting to elude police and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, as well as six misdemeanor charges and a traffic violation, records indicate.
Peck was found Sept. 17 asleep behind the wheel with his truck still in gear when Cotton County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to make contact. He, instead, took off on the cross-county chase, according to the probable cause affidavit. Investigators said speeds topped 100 mph for much of the pursuit before a tactical stop was made that led to his arrest.
After pleading not guilty and posting the $150,000 bond, Peck returns to court at 2 p.m. Dec. 7 for his preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
