ANADARKO — Ten peeping tom counts were filed against a Dill City man accused of hiding a camera in his camper’s bathroom and filming people showering without their knowledge while at Fort Cobb State Park.
James R. Cox, 43, made his initial appearance Monday in Caddo County District Court where he received the 10 felony charges, records indicate. Each count is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine up to $5,000.
Caddo County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Leal stated another deputy received the call about the recording device on Sunday and spoke with a man and woman who had been staying in Cox’s camper trailer. They said they’d camped with him several times before.
The man said he discovered the hidden camera while using the bathroom that day. According to the probable cause affidavit, he said he checked the USB card and saw several videos of people they knew who were nude while showering or using the bathroom as well as video of Cox setting up the camera. One of the females on the video was under 18 at the time and the videos were from multiple camping trips, Leal stated.
Cox told investigators he’d bought the camera to capture activity of anything happening at his office, however, the deputy stated he saw no video of anything like that. There was video of Cox filming nude photos off of his phone and of him exposing his genitals, the affidavit states. Cox said he’d set the camera up in the bathroom to capture video of his wife showering and said he’d been drinking and was a “creep,” Leal stated. He claimed to forget he’d put it in the room
Leal stated there was video to the contrary. There was video from inside the camper showing people changing clothes and, in all, there were 17 different videos of people nude in the shower or using the restroom, according to the affidavit.
Free on $10,000 bond, Cox returns to court at 9 a.m. June 20 for his preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
