Let the games begin! Bowling games that is as league play kicked into full swing last week less just a couple of leagues waiting until after the Labor Day holiday to start up.

Leading the way in the first week of competition was the Suburban league, set at Twin Oaks Bowling Center, Fort Sill.

The league billed as the highest paying league in the association is home to 19 teams this season, looking for number 20 to avoid a bye.

Anyone interested in filling that void can contact the league’s secretary, Jim Bomboy.

Meanwhile, Brandon Tipton isn’t wasting anytime with getting his name on the standings, posting a 723 on the opening night on games of 257, 256 and 210.

Michael Gillian had games of 225, 220 and 266 for the second best set of 711 and Zack in Back!

Zack Jones bowled league for the first time in a while, but, no rust here as Jones put up games of 266, 228 and 214 for the third highest set of the night.

Jim Bomboy gets to relax and just bowl on the Tuesday Night Mixed league, also at Twin Oaks, where no distractions summed up a 714 on the first night of this league’s season.

Bomboy had games of 279, 228 and 207 to make up the set.

Andrea Halstead led the ladies with a 675 from last Monday’s Early Bird league where she rolled 237, 189 and 249, and leading in senior league play was Dale Perry of the Entertainers league at Thunderbird Lanes.

Perry shuffled through game one with a 181 before lining up for games of 247 and 280 to make up a 708 for series.

The Entertainers is a packed house but the Monday afternoon Socialites, also at Thunderbird Lanes, has a couple of openings and the Thursday morning Golden Years league at Twin Oaks needs just one bowler to fill a team’s roster.

As always, contact the bowling center for details on openings on these and other leagues.

No-Tap News

Daniel Bailey made only his second appearance in the weekly senior no-tap Colorama at Thunderbird Lanes, and walked away a winner.

Looking for a few extra games of practice to prepare for league, Bailey put no-tap games of 255, 200 and 268 together for a handicap series total of 825 for this week’s title.

Second place went to Sam Bowman who rolled scratch scores of 285, 242 and 230 for an 814 and James Middleton took home third with 772 on games of 245, 203 and 243.

And for the ladies, Cathy Shuman zoned in for an 834 for first place, scoring 210, 240 and 192.

Mystery doubles went to Gary Schmeiding and Sam Bowman for a game one score of 533.

Diane Frame with Robert Hatfield rolled a combined 520 to win game two and Danny Bailey with Armour Brown posted 567 for a game three win.

Strike pot ticket winners were David Yett, Herb Scott, Danny Bailey and Gary Schmeiding and Sam Bowman was in action for the Special shots winning the first two challenges with ease.

Bowman rolled trip 7’s to win the “21” Jackpot purse and was then drawn for the Match Play attempt where he rolled 8-8-8 for back to back wins.

The Pill Draw, Snake Bite, Lefty/Righty and Make That Spare challenges remained for next time.

Join senior bowlers age 50 and up every Friday afternoon at 1pm at Thunderbird Lanes for the senior 9-Pin No-Tap Colorama.

Knights of Columbus Fundraiser

The 8th annual Mixed Game Doubles tournament hosted by Carl Christman and the Knights of Columbus was held at Thunderbird Lanes this past weekend. Tune in next week for highlights and tournament results.
