Before the regional tournament began, Sterling head coach Brett Holmes expressed confidence in his team’s chances to advance to the state tournament despite having several underclassmen start for the Tigers. Only three seniors are in Sterling’s starting lineup.
“I fully expect us to have a good opportunity to go to the state tournament if we play like we’re capable of,” he said. “I like our chances with the way we’re hitting and pitching.”
First round losers were scheduled to play Friday in an elimination game. A second elimination game was set for 4 p.m. Friday, with the top two teams advancing to the Class A state tournament.
