After roughly three to five years, the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma has announced the return of the Spirit of Survival race for Oct. 6.
Lane Hooton, Chief Operating Officer of Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma, said the race has been a big event in Southwest Oklahoma. However, the race ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There’s just a great deal of interest in the community in bringing it back,” Hooton said.
Hooton said the race will have three events: a 5K Run and Walk, a Spirit Walk for survivors, and a Bubble Run for kids. The races will start and end at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, 104 NW 31st Street.
“The purpose of the race is to raise awareness of cancer and the treatment of cancer here in Southwest Oklahoma, and to raise funds to support several programs that (Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma) has,” Hooton said. “Those programs are transportation, the indigent funds and research.”
