Southwest Oklahoma girls earn state wrestling bids

Several Southwest Oklahoma girls advanced to the State Wrestling Tournament after regionals were conducted at four sites across the Oklahoma Tuesday.

Cache competed in the Class 5A regional at Kingfisher High and the Bulldogs wound up sharing second with McLoud after both scored 169 poits. Harrah claimed the title with 177 points.

The Bulldogs advanced two wrestlers to State and place seven overall. Kaitlyn Patterson claimed the title at 100 pounds, pinning Robin Moorman of Morrison at 2:53. At 130 pounds Shiann Famero earned a 4-2 decision over Carla West of Billings to advance to state.

Cache also had Laurel Hill place third at 105, while Victorya Cox at 115, Zoe Bennett at 140 and Zailea Rodriguez at 155 all finished fourth. CJ Landry was fitth at 110 pounds.

Three area wrestlers also claimed regional titles and will compete in state later this month. Lyndi Green of Anadarko was first at 145 pounds, getting a second-period fall, while Aleah Chase of Marlow won the 170-pound title by fall. Brook West of Comanche won a title as well with a fall.

The 6A Regional at Yukon included all the toughest teams in the state and it was hard to qualify for state by winning first or second.

Elgin advanced Symphony Veloz at 170 pounds as she was runner-up. Elgin’s other state-bound wrestler is Alana Hercules at 145. She had a wild 15-13 loss in sudden victory but will have a chance to turn that around at state.

Elgin’s Abby Anglley came close to qualifying after finishing third at 190 and Taniya Reid-Smith was fifth at 235 pounds.

Two Lawton wrestlers placed at the 6A regional as Kayla Lyles from Eisenhower was fifth at 100 pounds and Lawton High School’s Teyanna Fields was third at 125.
