Southwest Oklahoma Corvette Club to present Corvette Kickoff Classic

Corvette enthusiasts are invited to attend the Corvette Kickoff Classic today through Sunday held by the Southwest Oklahoma Corvette Club.

Jeremy Welborn, president of SWOCC, said there will be Corvettes from every generation at the show.

“The last couple of years, we’ve had between 80 and 100 (Corvettes),” Welborn said. “But we are going to surpass that this year. We’ll have probably over 120 Corvettes in the show on Saturday.”

Welborn said this is the seventh year for the show.

“We have guests registered with their Corvettes from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, California and Virginia,” he said.

Welborn said many vendors will be at the show, including one from the National Corvette Museum Store. Two silent auctions will be held today and Saturday.

“The proceeds for our show and our auctions will go to benefit the Lawton/Fort Sill Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, as well as patients of the Cancer Centers in Southwest Oklahoma,” Welborn said.

Welborn said there will be a Top 25 Celebrity Choice Corvette Show on Friday evening.

“Our celebrities are Col. Parker from Fort Sill and Pam Marion from RE/MAX,” Welborn said. “Those are our two celebrity judges, they’ll pick their favorite 25 Corvettes from those that are there. Then we go back to (Apache Casino Hotel) for the awards.”

Two shows will take place on Saturday: the Judge Show and the Show-N-Shine. Show-N-Shine is where people can show their cars off and participants can vote on their favorites. The Judges Show is where the judges inspect the cars and choose the winner.

Steve Garrett will be a special guest emcee for the event.

“He’s known throughout the Corvette community for his Corvette Today podcast, which is the only weekly podcast dedicated to the Corvette,” Welborn said.

Welborn said the show showcases what Lawton and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge has to offer.

“There have been many people who have come to our events in the past and said, ‘Wow, we didn’t know that there were so many things to do around here,’” Welborn said. “We’re blessed to have such a great community to live in and to showcase as people from out of town feel.”
