A couple of Twin Oaks league bowlers were denied perfect 300 games last week as neither were allowed one last strike for the honor after rolling the front eleven strikes in a row.
Both games were rolled on Thursday, the first from the Golden Years senior league early in the day when Brian Taub lined up in game one to put the string of 11 together before leaving four pins on the deck after his last shot.
Nothing was reported as to which pins were left standing resulting in the 296 total or what might have happened but Taub is a seasoned player with several Honors to his credit on Sill lanes.
Based on his next two games, it appears that Taub lost his carry finishing with 202 and 204 for a 702 series.
Robert Lawson was the other bowler denied a perfect score, his coming in game three of the evening time Suburban league.
It was a first time run for Lawson who started the night with games of 226 and 175 before lining up for what ended up being a game 106 pins over his average with a 297 score.
Again, no particulars were reported on the last shot so we will chalk this one up to experience knowing that the next time will have a different result.
League Highlights
Lawson fell short of the 700 marker with his 11 in a row effort but the top series of 760 was also a Suburban league score, posted by Tory Morales.
Morales shot 237, 257 and 266 to make up the set with Bob Carter in sight at 739 on games of 268, 204 and 267.
Chad Perry also had a good read with games of 234, 236 and 267 for a 737 and Bill Kaplan anchored in at 704 that went 204, 276 and 224.
Getting the Tuesday Night Mixed caught up, week 24 showed Johnathan McCoy with a 737 on games of 237, 246 and 254, followed by Bob Carter with games of 256, 246 and 222 for a 724.
Unfortunately, week 25 wasn’t as productive.
Jeff Bowman rolled 245, 227 and 246 to lead Guys and Dolls players with a 719 series and David Fishbeck managed a 712 in the Goodyear league where he rolled 267, 202 and 243.
Topping the ladies chart this week was Brittney Williams with a 691 from the Ladies Night Out league where she posted games of 236, 190 and 265 for high game and series honors.
And we have a few shout outs this week starting with Don Mowery who rolled his first left handed 200 game of 201 while bowling in the Golden Years league. Mowery’s hard work and practice changing over to the other side is starting to pay off. Congratulations Sir.
Douglas Jones, Goodyear league, discovered the benefits of having a bowling ball that actually fit his hand and rolled 168, 107 and 174 off a 96 average and Blaine McKinney posted an old fashioned triplicate series with three 179 games in the Early Birds.
Youth Highlights
Jake Croft rolled the high scores for youth bowlers, putting together a 569 thanks to a 233 closer in the T-Bird Legend.
Lee Perry was the 12 and under top bowler with a 464 in the TBird HotShots on games of 173, 117 and 174.
High School Bowling Coach Bill Kaplan reported that he had tested positive for Covid and was unable to accompany his team, the Eisenhower Boys, as they faced a tough battle at the State finals that was held at Oakwood Bowl in Enid last Saturday. Former coach Kristina McCoy was available to fill the void.
It was reported that the team was down 2-0 and came back, won the next two but lost the third game to Broken Arrow in the 10th frame by four pins.
Kaplan offered his thanks to McCoy for her support and said that he was very proud of his team and how well they did this season as many were first time bowlers.
No-Tap News
Sam Bowman rolled no-tap games of 265, 244 and 278 to take first place in last Friday’s senior no-tap Colorama at Thunderbird Lanes with an 838 with his handicap added in.
Randy Travis followed with 817 and Michael Sneed came in with the third highest set of 810, beating out Cleo Travis by one pin.
Sue Avis was crowned women’s champ with 814 on scratch no-tap games of 250, 212 and 229, followed by Cathy Shuman for second who rallied in game three to finish with a 721.
Scratch Singles winners were Sam Bowman, 787, Malden Smith, 724 and JP Nauman, 717.
Nauman was also accredited with the high game of the day of 288.
Mystery Double winners were John Fortner with Zari Conway, 517, Michael Sneed with Roy Johnson, 555 and JP Nauman with Cathy Shuman, 580.
Of the nine strike pot tickets drawn, there were only two winners, Mike Peckinpaugh and James Halstead, and they won only half of the ticket total, leaving a hefty purse for next time, along with carryovers from the special Challenge shots that also went unscathed.
Senior bowlers age 50 and over are invited to join the fun every Friday afternoon at Thunderbird Lanes starting at 1 p.m.
