Gunshots that left one man wounded led to a Lawton man being jailed on $100,000 for allegations he pulled the trigger.
Jeremiah Paul Jenkins, 39, made his initial appearance Wednesday in Comanche County District Court where he received felony charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, records indicate. The first charge is punishable by up to life in prison.
Lawton police were called around 2:15 a.m. March 23 to 1608 NW Lincoln regarding a shooting and arrived to find a man wounded from gun shots to the right shoulder, back and thigh, the probable cause affidavit states. Officer Joshua Dawson stated Jenkins was taken into custody after saying the wounded man fired into his home and he returned gunfire. Witnesses said they heard three to six gunshots but didn’t see who shot.
Police recovered two handguns from Jenkins’ couch, according to the affidavit.
Jenkins said the other man had tried to kick in his front door and when he opened the door, Jenkins saw the other man by his truck in the driveway, Dawson stated. Jenkins said he shot at the man multiple times and that he hit the man in the head with his gun twice, causing it to discharge both times, the affidavit states. Jenkins said he believed the other man had a rock or a gun but neither one was recovered, only a brick thrown through Jenkins’ window.
Jenkins returns to court at 9:30 a.m. May 20 for his preliminary hearing, records indicate.
