Charges for a shooting, robbery and carjacking have led to a Lawton man being jailed on $50,000 bond.
Brendan Keith Henry, 25, made his initial appearance Monday in Comanche County District Court where he received felony charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle and second-degree robbery, records indicate.
Lawton police began investigating Jan. 18 after the victim, suffering a gunshot wound to his upper right leg/thigh area, ran to a person’s home and called 911 regarding being shot and his car stolen at a home in the 2300 block of Northwest 44th Street.
A witness told Detective Michael Boudreaux that Henry had come to her house to talk about problems with his girlfriend. After about 15 minutes, the victim pulled into the home’s driveway and, the woman said, Henry rushed past her and approach the car’s driver side and the men began arguing, the probable cause affidavit states. The woman saw a gun in Henry’s hand before she heard a “pop” and then the driver got out and ran down the street and Henry got in the car and took off, Boudreaux stated.
The injured man told Bourdreaux that he and Henry had a “beef” with each other stemming from events from years past. He said Henry approached him, demanded his things and when he said no, Henry responded by pulling out a silver revolver and shooting him, the affidavit states. He said he got out, threw his keys and possibly his wallet on the ground and ran for help because, “I didn’t want to die,” the detective stated.
Police said that later that evening Henry was found passed out behind the wheel of the stolen car in the parking lot at 2413 NW Williams and he was arrested.
During questioning, Henry told Boudreaux it was the wounded man who’d tried to rob him but that he made the man shoot himself in the leg, according to the affidavit.
A neighbor’s security video showed the woman and injured man’s stories of events were verified, Boudreaux stated. During booking, Henry is accused of threatening to assault a jail detention officer when he got out of jail, the affidavit states.
As part of Henry’s bond conditions, he is to have no contact with the wounded man or witnesses. He returns to court at 3 p.m. Jan. 29 for his preliminary hearing conference.
