Sometimes fans might step off the practice field and struggle to find offensive plays that will showcase the player of the game. However, that sure wasn’t a problem this week as there were plenty of plays that showcased the offense that helped Eisenhower coast to a 60-32 victory over Shawnee Friday night at Cameron Stadium.
There was little doubt who produced the perfect highlight reel for the Eagles as Serri Sheridan scored five touchdowns in a wide variety of TD plays for the small but enthusiastic group of fans on the north bleachers.
The 5-11, 180-pound junior scored on a 76-yard interception return, a 4-yard run around left end, a 60-yard pass reception and a 28-yard pass reception where he had to jump high to beat a pair of Shawnee defenders and run 28 yards to paydirt as the clock was running downhill midway through the second quarter.
“There is just something magical about that kid,” Ike coach Javon Harris said. “We find ourselves being drawn into the video just to see what magical plays he will do each week.”
Harris said it’s hard not to be awed by the plays Sheridan makes look downright easy.
“Serri is just a magical player,” Harris said. “He’s always dialed in every manner. Charlie just makes it work.”
The junior back just takes time to share his video highlights with the high school coaches.
“While it may have been a game few might want to watch,” Harris says he hates to keep the college coaches from seeing all his amazing plays.”
“It looks like 5A is going to be a fight each week,” Carl Albert said. “The Sheridan kid at Ike can turn a game around with one play. I tell our guys to make sure those videos get out there each week.”
Sheridan helped Ike rack up 23 first downs, he had three interceptions including one for a Pick-6 and he tacked on three receptions for 58 yards and three TDs.
Rashart Eltzey opened the scoring for Ike with a 3-yard TD reception before Sheridan got the second on a 9-yard running play.
Quarterback Charlie Trachte then hit Jalen Jones for ma 42-yard TD pass and after that the Ike offense built the lead to 26-18 with 14 seconds still remaining before the first half would end.
The Eagles marched 88 yards to score as Trachte hit Sheridan for a 33-18 lead with 7:58 left on the first half scoreboard clock with 1:46 remaining before the halftime opened the band performance with 40-18 left before halftime performance.
Tony Worrie tacked on the next Ike TD with an interception that he returned 38 yards to a first down at the 38-yard line. He kept the ball on three straight runs to score on a 4-yard-run and Bryan Frias added another PAT for a 47-18 lead.
Frias ended the scoring for the Highlanders when he boomed a PAT kick after Tristan Swigert.
