RUSH SPRINGS – The nice custom of the annual Watermelon Competition is upon us once more, this Saturday, Aug. thirteenth at Jeff Davis Park.
This pageant – which has taken place since 1948, and attracts 1000’s of festivalgoers every year – celebrates the push of native, seasonal watermelons with watermelon-themed actions, carnival rides and family-friendly leisure.
“The Rush Springs Watermelon Competition is constantly rated probably the greatest summer season occasions in Oklahoma,” stated Rush Springs native Joe Dorman, a former state consultant. “This city of 1,200 residents constantly hosts greater than 30,000 guests on the one-day occasion, yearly held the second Saturday of August.”
Dorman stated the Rush Springs Lions Membership serves because the hosts of the pageant “and lots of present and former townspeople make it occur.”
Opening ceremonies start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, adopted by a Tiny Tots contest, leisure by Autumn Coleman and Aaron Chestnut and Trinity Horton. This can be adopted at midday with the coronation of the Watermelon Queen by Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell.
Extra leisure on Saturday afternoon features a watermelon seed-spitting contest; Elvis tribute artist Brian Lee Dunning; Victory Fellowship Reward Band; an public sale for the prize watermelons; and featured leisure by Von Hawks Rising.
The pageant will conclude at 6:30 p.m. with closing remarks by 2022 Watermelon Queen Taylor Abbott.
Don’t miss the humanities and crafts present; automotive present and the Rush Springs Rodeo, which is held at Rusty Acres Area north of city on Aug. 11 and 12.
