Lawton police and Crime Stoppers are upping the reward for information leading to arrest after a person was shot and killed in Elmer Thomas Park.
Lawton police responded to a report of gunfire in the park 301 NW Ferris, early Monday morning and found an unidentified person dead, according to Sgt. Christopher Blessing, Lawton Police information officer. Detectives were seen searching the park Monday for evidence in what is a homicide investigation.
Detectives are asking potential witnesses who were in the park between 5:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. Monday to step forward with information. They also are asking members of the public who live in the area to check their security footage for anything pertaining to the incident.
The death is the 11th by homicide this year, according to Constitution records.
By making a request for tips during the first 48 hours heading regarding Monday’s death, tips that lead to an arrest may be eligible for double the rewards if received in the time frame.
