Residents have until Aug. 2 to register to vote in Aug. 27 election

Residents have until Aug. 2 to register to vote for the Aug. 27 primary election, which will include a special election for Comanche County Commissioner District 1.

Residents may register using the State Election Board’s Online Voter Registration System at https://oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp.html. Applications also are available at the Comanche County Election Board, located in the Comanche County Courthouse at Southwest 5th and C, and at most tag agencies, libraries and post offices. Voters who are unable to vote on Election Day may vote during the early voting period which will be held 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 22-23, and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 24, in the Comanche County Election Board Office. No excuse is needed, but voters must sign an affidavit saying they will not vote at their precincts on election day.

Voters who are unable to vote in-person on Election Day or during early voting may request an absentee ballot by completing an Absentee Ballot Application and submitting it to the county election board by email, mail, fax, or in person. Applications can be downloaded at https://oklahoma.gov/content/dam/ok/en/elections/absentee-ballots/absentee-ballot-application.pdf. Voters also can apply for an absentee ballot through the OK Voter Portal at https://oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp.html. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Aug. 12.

The special primary election will feature six Republican candidates: District 1 Commissioner Trent Logan, Kevin T. Turpin, Hank Hasenbeck, Ryan John, Craig Tracht and Chad Maguire. The race is open to registered Republicans who live in the eastern county commissioner district.
