We hit a lull last week and not a lot in the way of high scores but that doesn’t stop us from having a bowling story or two.
Chad Perry had the week’s top series of 750 while bowling in the Suburban league at Twin Oaks where he rolled 257, 258 and 235 but what about his lovely bride Tasha Perry?
Tasha hit all time highs last week starting with a career best game of 224 before adding 204 and 208 for her first career 600 series of 636 while bowling in the Early Birds League at Thunderbird Lanes.
Another good story last week was about Matt Ray, who was not having the greatest of nights in the TNT league at Thunderbird Lanes but he had managed to get strikes in all of the right frames on a mission to break the 3-6-9 bank.
As fate would have it, Ray needed just one more strike in the ninth frame of game three but instead, left the 7-10 split.
Coming from an era of ‘don’t leave it if you can’t pick it up’, Ray may have had a little extra power behind that ball but he nailed the 7 and sent it flying into the 10 for the conversion. No Jackpot but what a pick up! His first 7-10 spare.
And another super spare came from Brandon Hurta in the Tuesday Night Mixed league at Twin Oaks. It was reported that Brandon converted the Big Four, 4-6-7-10.
Just goes to show you that there is more than one way to make the news.
Adult League Highlights
Jason Olnes was second highest on the honor roll with a 730 from the TNM where he shot 256, 247 and 227 and Joe Langley followed Perry in the Suburban with a 718 that went 232, 248 and 238.
Jim Bomboy was in the zone with 707 thanks to the week’s high game of 278, his game one entry, and Chris Lowe wrapped up his night with a 268 to post a 705.
And the senior player of the week was Dwight Blair from the Golden Years league at Twin Oaks posting 709 on games of 255, 216 and 238.
Hunter Hall made the honor roll for the first time this season with a 243 game that was 99 pins over average in the Friday Nite Mixed Rollers and we would like to take this opportunity to welcome a couple of new bowlers to the honor roll.
Justin Cowart kicked off the Guys and Dolls league with a 253 game off a 167 average and the Ladies Night league welcomed Autumn Penvose to their roster.
Youth Bowling
Kalan Hicks had the youth high series of 512 on games of 173, 146 and 193 from the TBird Legends league where Michael Riley came in with the high game of the week of 201.
DJ Scott was the U12 division leader with games of 155, 127 and 124 for a 406 in the TBird Hot-Shots were first year bowler Zaine Madden posted his first 100 game of 101.
And in the MiniShots, William Mullins had the only 100 game of 106.
No-Tap News
There were 24 bowlers in attendance at last Friday’s Senior No-Tap at Thunderbird Lanes where you might wonder what happened when you see the honor roll scores, or lack thereof.
It really doesn’t matter what the scores are, as long as yours are higher and Sam Bowman said, “I’ll take that!” with a win for a 769 handicap total on games of 262, 215 and 235.
Roy Johnson fell into second place with a 767 and Charles Norman placed in third with 766.
Kathy Zerbe rolled a handicap set of 746 to win in the ladies division, followed by Leilani Wiggins with 720.
Bowman also won Scratch singles with a 712, followed by Duane Hurwitz, 697 and David Yett, 657.
Mystery Doubles winners were Armour Brown with James Halstead, 560, Roy Johnson with Margit Augustine, 511 and Robert Lansberry with Peggy Towne and John Fortner with David Yett tied for the number one spot in game three with 520.
Even though scores were not very high, these bowlers knew when to strike, wiping out almost half of the strike pot tickets.
Winners were Gene Augustine, Kathy Zerbe, John Fortner, Vanda Edmondson, Gary Webster and the big ticket winner of the day, Armour Brown.
These shots add up quick though so there will be more for next week, along with Challenge shots as Duane Hurwitz was the only taker in that event, winning the Snake Bite Ticket by leaving the 2-7-8.
Senior bowlers age 50 and over are invited to join the fun every Friday afternoon at Thunderbird Lanes starting at 1 p.m.
