Ray, Bomboy Jr. post first 8’s of 2024

James Ray and Jimmy Bomboy share this week’s spotlight with the first 800 series’ of the year going in the books.

Ray threw the first log on the fire, posting a 299 out of the gate in the TNT league at Thunderbird Lanes a week ago last Thursday evening.

No word on what pin left him a pin shy of perfect, but he came back throwing more lumber into the pit and posted games of 257 and 259 to record a career high series for the Lawton/Fort Sill Bowling Hall of Famer of 815.

Honors were in the air and the next night, Friday, Jan. 12, Jimmy Bomboy grabbed his first 800 series while bowling in the Friday Nite Mixed Rollers at Twin Oaks Bowling Center, Ft. Sill.

Bomboy started his run with a 257 game before putting the front 10 on the board of game two.

Again, no word on what went wrong in the tenth but a 289 was reported before going into game three where the strikes out numbered the spares and a 258 was scored, giving the former youth all-star an 804 for totals, his first career 800 series.

As an added note, Bomboy was still in the zone a few days later rolling a 767 on games of 264, 275 and 228 in the Tuesday Night Mixed.

Adult Highlights

The TNT league was also the setting for the women’s high scores by Amanda Price who shot 267, 255 and 229 for a 751 set.

In addition, Kellan Hill rolled 729 on games of 203, 268 and 258 and Nate Baggett went 270, 220 and 221 for a 711.

Andrew Petering topped the Guys and Dolls league with 728 on games of 247, 236 and 245 and Bob Carter was the senior bowler of the week with the same 728 series except his went 249, 248 and 231.

Catching up with TNM news, Zach Morales led the league on week 19 with a 720 that included games of 256, 257 and 207 and was the only bowler on the 700 list.

Week 20 showed a little more promise as besides the 767 by Bomboy mentioned above, Andrew McCann put up a 716 on games of 234, 226 and 256 and Jason Olnes rolled 212, 243 and 246 for a 701.

Chad Perry made the grade with a league high 715 from the Suburban league where he rolled 238, 221 and 256, followed by James Biscaino who came in with a 704 on games of 231, 227 and 246.

Dwight Blair was 99 pins away from Bomboy’s 804 in the Friday Nite Mixed but still hit the marker at 705 on games of 202, 257 and 246 and this week’s honorable mention goes to Emily Esquer of the Ladies Night Out league.

Emily was 81 pins over her 91 average with a 172 career high game.

Youth Highlights

Maddox Swietek led in youth league play with a 588 on games of 179, 217 and 192 in the Saturday morning TBird Legends.

There were no 100 games reported from the youngest of our clan, the bumper assisted MiniShots, but Lee Perry was almost 100 pins ahead of his closest competitor in the TBird HotShots, scoring 153, 130 and 153 for a 436 series.

No-Tap News

A few brave souls ignored the outside freezing temperatures and made their way to bowl in last Friday’s Senior No-Tap at Thunderbird Lanes but what they found were frigid conditions on the lanes as well.

Not a single no-tap 300 game and barely a scratch 700 series, but that just made the challenges that much more difficult.

Roy Johnson found quite a few more strikes than the rest of the crowd, taking first place in the men’s division with a 791 handicap total.

John Fortner took second with 779 and James Halstead finished in third with 771.

Sue Avis was a three-peat winner in the women’s division but she had to share her title this time with Diane Frame, both ladies registering 755 for totals.

Scratch winners were John Fortner, 707, Mike Peckinpaugh, 688 and for third, David Jones and Ken-ny Ratke shared the honors with 661’s each.

Mystery Doubles winners were Roy Johnson with Barry Morris in game one with 549 and again in games two with 522.

Game three went to Kevin Pair with Robert Lansberry, 542.

Strike Pot ticket winners were Herbert Scott, Sam Bowman and Mike Peckinpaugh and Ken Knoff made off with the only challenge shot purse, winning the ODD (1-3-5-7-9) spare conversion.

This event held every Friday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. and is open to all senior bowlers age 50 (+) with a verifiable average.
