Races have developed for all four local seats that will be placed before voters in August, as the final day of filing ended Wednesday in Comanche County.
Candidates spent three days filing declarations of candidacy for Lawton mayor, Lawton City Council Ward 1 and Ward 2 seats, and Comanche County District 1 commissioner.
In the race for Lawton mayor, incumbent Stan Booker is seeking his third term. He faces four challengers: Cindy Edgar, Ron Ballew, Matina Davis and Jacobi Crowley.
In City Council Ward 1, incumbent Mary Ann Hankins also is seeking her third term. She faces a challenge from Larry Walls.
In Ward 2, the decision by incumbent Kelly Harris to not seek a second term left an open seat that attracted five candidates: R.L. Smith, Justin L. Harrill, David Reeves, Shelli Fox and Jervis Jackson.
In Comanche County, residents in the eastern county commissioner district have six choices for the District 1 commissioner seat: Trent Logan, Lawton; Ryan John, City OK; Kevin C. Turpin, Fletcher; Hank Hasenbeck, Elgin; Craig Tracht; and Chad Maguire.
Logan is filling the seat now, after being appointed by Gov. Kevin Stitt earlier this month in the wake of the resignation of former District 1 Commissioner John O’Brien as part of a plea agreement. Logan will fill the District 1 seat until voters select a candidate, with that winner completing O’Brien’s unexpired term.
The primary election for the races is Aug. 27, with a general election set for Nov. 5.
