A dangerous attempt to elude police, an attempted escape and over 50 grams of methamphetamine led to the arrest and charges for two men.
Kyle Anthony Duren, 36, and Theouble Alkezianah Vital Jr., 65, of Snyder, made their initial appearances Friday morning in Comanche County District Court, records indicate.
Duren was charged with felony counts of endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude police and escape from felony arrest, and misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle with defective equipment and driving without a license.
Vital received a felony charge of trafficking in meth.
Lawton Police Officer Taylor Wattenberger stated that while patrolling the 400 block of Northwest 6th Street shortly before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, a black Chrysler Town & Country without a rearview mirror and with a basketball-sized crack to the front windshield pulled out from a home. The officer flipped the lights and the Chrysler pulled over at Northwest Parkview Boulevard and Cherry Avenue. Then, the vehicle took off through residential neighborhoods that led to a high-speed chase and blowing through stop signs that ended in the 1600 block of Northwest Bell Avenue, the probable cause affidavit states.
The driver, Duren, got out and took off running and jumped a fence into a backyard, Wattenberger stated. The officer returned to the vehicle and found Vital and two women inside. Duren was picked up by another officer in the alley on Northwest 16th Street between Bell and Lake, the affidavit states.
The Chrysler was impounded and during inventory, a pipe with drug residue was found in the center console cupholder. Inside the front passenger door panel was a McDonald’s bag containing 52.2 grams of meth as well as small ziplock baggies, a scale and less than a gram of marijuana, according to the affidavit. Duren, Vital and the two women, who have not been charged with a felony as of Friday, were arrested, Wattenberger stated.
Duren has a prior May 2009 felony conviction from Garfield County for a count of conspiracy to commit a felony, records indicate.
