ELGIN — After two consecutive losses to ranked teams, Elgin ended its regular season with a resounding 70-39 win over the Duncan Demons Tuesday night.

The victory came on the backside of losses to No. 1 Kingfisher 55-27 and to No. 3 Weatherford 51-26 last week. Elgin finished the regular season with an 11-12 record.

The Owls head to the district tournament Friday, which will be one game at 7:30 p.m. at Community Christian, 5300 N Interstate Drive in Norman.

The district tournament winner and runner-up advance to the regional tournament. However, the loser of the Elgin-Community Christian game will be saddled with one loss in the double-elimination playoff format.

A win would push Elgin into the regional tournament at Bethany next week. Elgin would play the winner of the Bethany-McGuiness game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23. However, a loss would drop Elgin into the consolation bracket and pit the Owls against the loser of the Bethany-McGuinness game at 3 p.m. Feb. 23.

Girls defeat Duncan

Elgin’s Lady Owls found their way back into the win column with a 47-36 win over Duncan Tuesday night.

The win improved Elgin’s record to 13-10 as the team heads to the district tournament Friday at Community Christian School in Norman. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Elgin almost knocked off No. 4 Kingfisher, but the Lady Jackets hit a last-second shot to win 47-45 last Friday. The following game against No. 5 Weatherford wasn’t close, as the Lady Eagles posted a dominating 74-46 victory.

A district tourney win would pit the Lady Owls against the winner of the Bethany-McGuinness district game at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the first round of the regional tournament. However, a district tourney loss would place the Lady Owls against the loser of the Bethany-McGuinness game at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 23.
