OSU’s Comanche County Extension office will host a free food safety discussion at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Prairie Building at the Comanche County Fairgrounds, 920 S. Sheridan.
Carol Hart, OSU Family and Consumer Science Educator for Caddo and Comanche counties, said they do monthly lessons like these for Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) groups.
Megan Monteith, OSU Family & Consumer Sciences Area Specialist of Health Disparities, will be guest speaker.
“The objective is to keep people from getting sick from a food borne illness from the food that we serve,” Hart said.
Hart said every year in the U.S., there’s an estimated 48 million cases of food borne illnesses, with 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths.
Hart said everyone who has a weakened immune system, from younger children, older adults and pregnant women, will be at a higher risk of food borne illness.
The event is free and open to the public.
