A pair of men identified by law enforcement as members of an Oklahoma City gang are each in jail for allegations of trying to throw contraband into the Lawton Correctional Facility grounds.
Sigifredo Lee Murillo-Alvarez, 18, and Adam Austin Herrera, 29, both of Oklahoma City, made initial appearances Monday in Comanche County District Court where they each received felony charges of aggravated fentanyl trafficking, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, bringing contraband into a penal institution and conspiracy to commit bringing contraband into a penal institution, records indicate.
Comanche County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Timothy Franklin stated he was called shortly after 3 a.m. Monday to the prison, 8607 SE Flower Mound Road, regarding two people who were trying to throw contraband over the fence. Both men were in custody of corrections staff.
Murillo-Alvarez told Franklin he’d been riding around with his girlfriend when they got into a fight and she kicked him out. However, prison staff said he’d been seen running toward the road when Herrera was apprehended by the fence, the probable cause affidavit states. Herrera had been detained in the bed of a prison patrol vehicle.
When asked what he was doing out there, Murillo-Alvarez told investigators he was “looking for lightning bugs,” according to the deputy.
Franklin stated both men were confirmed members of South Side Locos Soreno gang out of Oklahoma City. Both men are on felony probation in Oklahoma City, the affidavit states.
Inside the two backpacks, a large amount of contraband was recovered: three sealed bags of pipe tobacco, 11 cellphones with chargers, two cigar packages, three mobile Sim cards, 20 AT&T Sim cards, nine T-Mobile Sim cards, seven lighters, a package of JB Weld epoxy resin, three Breeze vapes, 184 grams of marijuana, 75 grams of methamphetamine and 60 grams of fentanyl pills, according to the affidavit.
Murillo-Alvarez is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 3:30 p.m. July 25 and Herrera’s is slated for 4 p.m. July 26, records indicate.
