The Oklahoma Baptist Symphony is coming to Cameron Baptist Church, 2621 SW C, at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Eric Luptak, worship pastor at the church, said the symphony is organized through the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.
According to Oklahoma Baptist’s website, the symphony was established in 1993. The ministry organization is made up of volunteers from every walk of life. The group has grown to 82 members, each desiring to praise God with the instrumental, musical skills He has given them.
Luptak said that students who play in some of the high schools will join the group to be exposed to the symphony.
Luptak said the orchestra goes from church to church every month, but they haven’t been to Lawton in three years. The church expects to have a couple hundred people at the concert.
“We’ve hosted them at our church in the past and that’s been pretty close to a couple hundred,” Luptak said.
Luptak said the orchestra is a volunteer organization, and that’s what he likes about them.
“The people who play in it are Baptist church members from all over Oklahoma,” Luptak said. “There are some from Tulsa, Oklahoma City and a lot of the small area churches that are around.”
Luptak said the symphony will be a traditional symphony that will last about 75 minutes. Hymn arrangements and modern worship music will be played, with some vocals included.
The concert is open to the public. For more information, contact Cameron Baptist Church at (580) 355-4854.
