Being able to see the beauty in the mundane and having the patience to understand the conundrum of life is what many people thrive for.
This October, Oklahoma artist Kelly Pennington will teach artists to be more open with a “Plein Air” workshop in the Duncan area. “Plein Air” being French for “in the open air.”
Hailing from the Oklahoma Panhandle, Pennington finds her subjects in rural areas, according to her website. Her subjects range from grazing livestock, country backroads and the ever-changing seasonal color palettes of local landscapes.
For three days, Pennington will demonstrate a simplified landscape painting approach, according to the workshop description. She will discuss composition, integrity of the masses, setting your intentions and color temperature. After each demo, students will stay together at a specific location not yet disclosed to practice the same approach independently. Pennington will periodically check on students during their process and work with them individually. The last day and hours will be a final group critique.
