Hamlin looks to back up Martinsville win with one at Darlington

After taking off over the summer, Russell Nauman had plenty of strikes stored up and used them on the first day of the Entertainers senior league at Thunderbird Lanes, posting his second career 700 series to top the honor roll this week.

Nauman thought that this was his first 700 but a little research showed it to be his second with a career high rolled back in May of 2021 of 716.

In this set Nauman put games of 269, 199 and 240 together to make up a show starting series of 707.

The ladies high this week came in from Andrea Halstead who started slow but put together a 247 for game three to sum up a 597 to lead the ladies, bowling the first week of the Early Birds.

Even though there are some leagues full, others have room for teams of three or four players and some are just looking for a bowler here and there.

Kudos to Olson for the events only no-tap 300 game of the day.

It was reported that the bowlers with the top two highest scratch series’ did not enter the side attraction, leaving another split for Olson and Bowman with 743 as their scratch series totals.

And only one place was paid to the ladies with Diane Frame walking away with the top score of 774.

Mystery doubles champs were Cleo Travis with Diane Frame with 588 for game one. Games two and three went to the pairing of Herb Scott and Rick Olson who posted 556 and 582 respectively.

Strike pot ticket winners included Maria Garcia, James Middleton, Armour Brown and Rick Olson.

And Randy Travis flipped the 1-2-3-5 and 9 cards for an easy money conversion in the “Make that Spare” chal-lenge.

Knights of Columbus Fundraiser

The Eighth annual Mixed Game Doubles tournament hosted by Carl Christman and the Knights of Columbus organi-zation will be held next weekend, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at Thunderbird Lanes.

Squad times are 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Entry fee is $40 per person/$80 per team with a guaranteed first place of $500 based on 35 team entries. Payout will be one place for every five teams, paid at the completion of the event. Multiple entries are allowed but no doubles team can cash more than once.

Teams will be rolling six different formats in this tournament to include one regular game of 10-pin, a One Ball (aka headpin), a Baker game, a Best Ball, a Scotch game and finishing up with a 9-pin.

Lots of fun with 50/50 tickets and some super nice door prizes including bowling gear will add to the adventure.

Walk-ins are welcome but to guarantee a spot, pre registrations are being held at Thunderbird Lanes or with Carl Christman, tournament director.
