Jurors report to the Comanche County Courthouse Monday morning for the second week of the county jury trial docket.
Among cases on the docket are a murder trial and another for allegations of ongoing sexual abuse of a young girl.
Trials may be continued or plea agreements made until the beginning of each trial.
The trial of a man accused of pulling the trigger in a September 2021 shooting death will begin Monday in Presiding Judge Emmit Tayloe’s courtroom.
Coyante Jacoy Williams, 23, will face a jury for a count of first-degree murder for allegations he shot Kalob R. Porter, 20. Williams was originally charged with shooting with intent to kill but when Porter died a few days later, the charge was amended. He also is accused of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping.
Williams is accused of shooting Porter in the head on Sept. 8, 2021, during an incident at 437 NW 53rd. Responders found Porter lying near the fence line in the backyard.
A 17-year-old girl who said she’d stepped in between Williams and Porter when they were fighting also was shot in the abdomen. According to the probable cause affidavit, she said he forced her into his car and took her to another location before he fled.
Williams had been free on $75,000 bond since his initial court appearance in November 2021, but he was recommitted by his bondsman in September 20202.
A 50-year-old man is wanted for allegations of molesting a 15-year-old girl since she was 4 years old also will begin trial on Monday in District Judge Grant Sheperd’s courtroom.
Albert Mares will begin trial for three counts of lewd molestation, two counts of first-degree rape of a child under 14, and single counts of forcible sodomy and second-degree rape, records indicate.
The then-teen disclosed incidents of inappropriate touching during a forensic interview with investigators. She said Mares molested and sexually abused her several times since she was 4 years old, the warrant affidavit states. She said several incidents happened at his apartment in the 1800 block of Northwest 82nd Street.
The girl said on Nov. 20, 2019, she was lying on the couch in the living room while Mares’ girlfriend was at the hospital giving birth to her son when he pulled the girl from the couch and molested her, the affidavit. Afterwards, she said he told her to take a shower.
Mares has been in custody of the Comanche County Detention Center on $75,000 bond since his initial court appearance in April 2022, records indicate.
Chief District Judge Scott D. Meaders will hear a trial beginning Monday for a Lawton man facing several firearm charges, including reckless conduct.
Maximilano Rodriguez, 36, of Lawton, will face a jury for felony charges of reckless conduct with a firearm as well as possession of a firearm after three prior felony convictions, records indicate.
Rodriguez was arrested in December 2022 after police responded to a shots fired call and, according to police, he was found outside waving a pistol. Police said he smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. He said there were two people in his attic, the probable cause affidavit states.
No one was found in the attic. Police did locate multiple bullet holes in the home’s ceiling and walls, according to the affidavit.
Rodriguez has three prior felony convictions in Comanche County for eluding police and two driving under the influence convictions.
Rodriguez has been held on $75,000 bond since his Dec. 20, 2022, initial court appearance, records indicate.
